The changes focus mainly on the attribution of original nationality, acquisition by adoption, naturalisation, and the opposition regime.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key changes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Birth registration:<\/strong>\u00a0Declarations may be made electronically, in person, or orally at consular posts, the Central Registry Office (<em>Conservat\u00f3ria dos Registos Centrais<\/em>), or Civil Registry Offices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Born in Portugal:<\/strong>\u00a0Original nationality is granted if at least one parent has been legally resident in Portugal for at least one year (and is not in the country in the service of their own State).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grandchildren of Portuguese nationals:<\/strong>\u00a0Requires a declaration of intent and proof of effective ties to the Portuguese community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Acquisition by adoption:<\/strong>\u00a0The adopter\u2019s nationality must be expressly stated in the filiation record.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Naturalisation:<\/strong>\u00a0Generally requires 5 years of legal residence.
