This legal category covers two types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fixed-term contract (definite)<\/strong> \u2013 The parties agree on a specific end date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Uncertain-term contract<\/strong> \u2013 The contract has a limited duration but no predetermined end date; its termination depends on a future event. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both contracts are <strong>time-limited<\/strong>. The key difference lies in how the end of the contract is determined: by a set date (fixed-term) or by the occurrence of a specific event (uncertain-term).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When can an uncertain-term contract be used?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>It may only be concluded in situations expressly provided by law, justified by an event that is time\u2011limited but without a precise date. Typical examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Temporary replacement of an absent employee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of a specific task, project, or work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Duration of an uncertain-term contract<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As a rule, it lasts for the time required to replace the absent worker or to complete the activity or project that justified the hire, but <strong>it may not exceed 4 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can an uncertain-term contract be renewed?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>No. It ends when the underlying condition is fulfilled. However, the employer must give prior notice.
